No file selected yet.About browser page numbering
This tool reads the selected PDF with pdf-lib, embeds Helvetica, draws a small page number label on every page, and saves the result locally. There is no upload step and no server-side document storage.
Add page numbers is for lightweight document labeling. It does not rebuild layouts, edit existing text, OCR scanned documents, or remove existing headers and footers.
Does this upload my files?
No. Everything on this page runs locally in your browser, so your files are never uploaded to a server. Close the tab and nothing is left behind. It even keeps working if you go offline after the page loads.
This is true for every tool on this site. Curious how that works? Read how browser-side processing works.
FAQ
Are PDFs uploaded to add page numbers?
No. The PDF is read in your browser, page numbers are drawn locally, and the numbered copy downloads from your device.
What page number format is used?
Each page is labeled as n / total, such as 3 / 12, using a small dark gray Helvetica label near the bottom edge.
Can I place numbers in a corner?
Yes. Choose bottom center or bottom right before running the tool.
Does it edit existing text?
No. It draws a small page-number label on each page and leaves the original page content otherwise unchanged.
